Layered Greek Dip

Layered Greek Dip

Do you ever find yourself counting the layers in a dip titled “7 Layer” to ensure you aren’t being cheated out of an important layer of flavor? When I made this dip the first time, it started out as 7 layers, then turned into 8 and if you get technical it could be 9. To combat my Type A personality and to not get any nasty comments about not being able to count, let’s just call this a Layered Greek Dip. This also allows you the freedom to add or subtract layers as you see fit.

Stars of the show

  • Hummus
  • Tzatzki Sauce or Homemade Greek Yogurt Sauce
  • Tomato
  • Cucumber
  • Pepperocini
  • Kalamata Olives or Greek Olive Blend
  • Feta Cheese
  • Green Onions
  • Greek Seasoning

The first time I experienced this dip, it was life changing. Well, life changing might be a bit overdramatic, but it changed my view of bringing hummus to a party.

Nobody wants to be known as the “girl who brings carrot sticks to a party,” but if you show up with carrot sticks and this dip, you’ll sure to be the highlight. I brought this to work, or as they like to be called; my blogging test group, and the plate was licked clean in a matter of minutes.

Assembly

First, spread a container of hummus onto a platter in an even layer. Next, spread the tzatzki sauce over the hummus. Here’s where I veered from the original recipe. I was less than impressed with the prepared tzatzki sauce I had purchased, so I had to improvise, which proved to be a good decision. I mixed cream cheese, greek yogurt, fresh lemon juice and greek seasoning together and spread that over the top of my hummus.

Then, top the dip with diced tomatoes and cucumbers. I suggest leaving space on the edges of each layer, so all the Type A personalities can easily identify each layer. From here, place, sprinkle, drop or throw the pepperocinis and olives on top. Last but not least, sprinkle on the crumbled feta cheese, green onions and greek seasoning.

You can consider creating a cheese board, so to speak, set up for your layered dip. Grab a large cutting board or cheese board and organize all your favorite dippers; sliced peppers, cucumbers, pita bread, crackers and if you must, carrots and celery. Go ahead, be the “girl who brings carrot sticks to the party!” Getting creative with your presentation only amps up the beauty of this layered dip.

On a side note, this dip does hold well overnight in the fridge. Although, it probably won’t last that long. I could devour this in one sitting!
